Current vs Future State Architecture

Design
Before final implementation, the users of the new or changed system get the opportunity to test the fully functional system in the User acceptance testing phase to approve system compliance.

Development
The development phase is where the team of developers develop each component of the system individually, keeping in mind what the end-state architecture of the complete system will look like.

Unit
In the Unit testing phase, the developers test their individual pieces of computer code against test cases to ensure all aspects of the functionality is catered for in each component. Any component defects will be ironed out in this phase.

Integrated Testing
In the Integrated testing phase, the developers merge all the code into a coherent system and test that all components work together, and the system performs as a complete functional unit. In this phase any system bugs will be fixed.

User Acceptance
Before final implementation, the users of the new or changed system get the opportunity to test the fully functional system in the User acceptance testing phase to approve system compliance.

Implementation
After all code has been developed and tested, the system can be implemented– that is taken to a live environment. Usually there is a stabilisation period of 2 weeks or so where any issues that were not picked up in testing can be resolved.
